FADONA’s 2004 CNA Essay Contest Winners:
1st Place Winner:
Inevitably in conversation, the question comes up, ”Where
do you work? My answer, I am a C.N.A. at Parthenon Healthcare. Why? I
love the people I work for, my residents. No, it’s not depressing. I
laugh every day. My residents are an extended part of my family. I help
them, listen to them and on occasion, speak out for them. I am paid with
smiles, laughter and love in return. I see little miracles everyday,
whether it’s a single word spoken clearly or someone who walks a few
steps unassisted. Where else could I ever work and receive such awesome
benefits?
Heather Miller, CNA
Parthenon Healthcare of Crestview
2nd Place Winner:
Among the many hallways, to the doors and beyond just each name that
lies upon the wall whereby, my job begins with each resident.
Every resident so unique, passing gifts, and characteristics that make
up their own individualities.
I work in the midst of these colorful and beautiful residents.
I take care of them. A personal touch, a way of giving, whereby each
resident expresses his or her own gratefulness.
Those precious moments are crafted from ones patience, care, love.
Where I find myself by their side in their final stage of life. I just
try to encourage residents and give them a sense of living, yet each
resident knowing, I am here if they need me to listen to them.
Tomorrow it starts all over again. I bring with me the hope, the
compassion, the caring that each resident needs. I will strive to bring
all residents some ray of light; some place whereby they can just lay
their head. I will shine forth my light in hopes that their days will be
enriched with just some sort of comfort. This is why I like being a
nursing assistant.
Wendy Pilz
Bon Secours Maria Manor
3rd Place Winner:
Being a CNA gives me a respect for life and a great
feeling of knowing that I can help someone.
My job gives me a chance to be close and make a
connection with people, not only as the resident but also the person as
a whole. A person with feelings, dignity, values, and a loving family
like my own.
I can honestly say that when I get a “hug, kiss or a
thank you” from “my babies” as I call them (and this does happen every
day). It makes me know in my heart that I made the best decision in my
life when I chose to become a CNA.
